Light It Up & Shake It Up Collab

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Today I am participating in a fun, interactive collaboration between Sassy & Crafty, Pear Blossom Press, and Doodles Paper Playground. You even have the chance to win an awesome prize! The collaboration is hosted on Instagram so head on over there for more details on the collab and its giveaways! Pear Blossom Press is showcasing a new product idea – HALO LIGHTS! Search the tag #shakelightandsparkle on Instagram to see all of the fun projects showcased in the hop!

For this collab, I made two light-up holiday projects. For construction details for each of these cards keep reading below.
Project 1
My first project is a shaker card AND light-up card that showcases the HALO Light prototype!
The HALO light is really bright and easy to use!

I used a stitched scallop rectangle die from Gina Marie Designs to create the card front. I used Festive Berries and Fired Brick oxide inks with the Knitted Stencil to create the background design.
To create the scene inside of the snowglobe, I used the house and tree images from the Shake It Up Baby stamp set. I ink blended the night sky background with Chipped Sapphire, Blueprint Sketch, and Peacock Feathers oxide inks.
To finish the card, I added the adorable penguin and the “push me” heart.
Warning! This card is VERY thick! Your card does not have to be this thick to use the HALO light! I just made mine that way. The layering of this card from the bottom-up goes as follows:
  • Red cardstock
  • Snow globe scene
  • Foam tape & sequins
  • Acetate
  • Halo light & more foam tape (outside of light)
  • Acetate (glued to back of card front)
  • Stitched-scallop knitted card front
  • Snow globe base
  • Penguin
  • Heart button
Project 2
For the second project I created an assembly video and posted it on YouTube. Check it out below!
First I used purple tape to mask off the white section of the card front from the ink blending. I used Chipped Sapphire, Dusty Concord, and Milled Lavender oxide inks to blend the wintery night sky. I used sequins and snowflakes from the Blue Blizzard Doodles pack to look like falling snow. I stamped the house image from the Shake It Up Baby stamp set multiple times to look like a row of houses. I used my Copic Sketch markers to color the houses to look like a rainbow. The colors I used are listed below. After I peeled off the masking tape I stamped the sentiment with pigment black ink.
To create the EZ-Lights light-up mechanism I poked a hole in the windows of the two outside houses and the middle house so the lights would shine through the windows. After attaching the lights in the correct spots to the card base I adhered vellum to the back of the card front. I finished the card by adding White Blizzard Nuvo drops to all of the windows, roofs, and doors knobs of the houses.

The easiest process, for me, to create a light up project:
  • Color the images on the front of the ornament and use a Crop-O-Dile hole punch or poker tool to cut out small holes where you want the light to shine through.
  • With a pencil trace the small circle openings onto the card base. This way your lights will line up with the holes in the card front.
  • Use glue dots, tear tape and Scotch tape to adhere the EZ-Lights mechanism (battery holder and button, the wires, and the lights) to the card base. I attach the lights to the base so that the illuminated areas aren’t so concentrated.
  • Add vellum to the backside of the card front to hide the lights in the background.
  • Attach double layered foam tape to the back of the front piece or to front of the base to account for the height of the battery and button mechanism.
  • Typically I add a “Push Here” button; however; with this card I just used the word “you” for the button placement. Now you have a light up card!
